Rainy Days Lab is a workshop that brings together filmmakers from around the world for an immersive week of knowledge-sharing, collaboration, storytelling, and networking. Three documentary projects in development, production, or post-production will be hosted in the magical Faroe Islands, surrounded by dramatic landscapes and a unique sense of tranquility. Here, filmmakers can fully immerse themselves in their projects while receiving mentorship from three established filmmakers.
Rainy Days Lab is for filmmakers who aspire to create high-quality, innovative documentary cinema that is entertaining, thought-provoking, and socially engaged. It is for those who value cultural exchange and believe in cinema's power to foster understanding across cultures and perspectives. For this reason, the three selected projects will differ significantly in their artistic, cultural, and political viewpoints, creating a space for meaningful dialogue, creative challenge, and mutual learning.
Rainy Days Lab is dedicated to supporting underrepresented filmmakers from around the world. While the Faroese film sector is young, it is growing rapidly. An increasing number of Faroese filmmakers are producing acclaimed work and gaining international recognition. Yet, as a small film nation, we continue to face structural challenges. Our stories, culture, language, and landscapes are distinctive, but we lack the financial resources and industrial capacity required to consistently produce larger-scale film and television projects.
By connecting with underrepresented filmmakers from around the world, Rainy Days Lab seeks to foster meaningful collaborations, build lasting international networks, and explore new approaches to overcoming the structural barriers faced by emerging film communities. Together, we can strengthen our capacity to tell our own stories on our own terms.
Rainy Days Lab is organized by Bad Weather Projects in collaboration with the Faroese Film Institute.
